One of the fundamental pillars of the Ancient Breeds project is the promotion of biodiversity, the desire is to highlight the unique connection between the territory, the animals, the breeders, and the products.
An Ark of Biodiversity: The Stable Meadows
These ecosystems, veritable treasure troves of biodiversity, are described by Luciana Pedroni, of the Grana D'oro Agricultural Society, as a “living seed ark” that has remained intact for centuries.
What are Stable Meadows?
Stable meadows are soils that have not been plowed or tilled, but have been left to spontaneous vegetation for an extended period, from a minimum of 12 months to hundreds of years. They are maintained exclusively through mowing and fertilization, respecting natural cycles.
A Sustainable Future
The preservation of stable meadows and the enhancement of Old Breeds are not only a matter of tradition, but also of sustainability. These ecosystems, rich in biodiversity, help maintain soil fertility and preserve a unique landscape where humans and nature live in harmony.
